Hunter-Reay penalised for NOLA IndyCar clash with Pagenaud

Ryan Hunter-Reay has been docked points and placed on probation after IndyCar officials determined that the Andretti Autosport driver was responsible for the three-car accident that ended his race last weekend at NOLA

Hunter-Reay was fined three points in the drivers' championship and placed on probation for three races for his part in the crash, which was triggered when Simon Pagenaud was forced onto the grass while trying to run to Hunter-Reay's outside and spun back across the track.

Both drivers were eliminated, along with Sebastien Bourdais.

The punishment was one of a raft of sanctions handed down by series officials in the wake of the NOLA race.

Dale Coyne Racing rookie Francesco Dracone was fined $10,000 and placed on probation for six races for breaching Rule 7.10.1.8 (contact with personnel) after he ran into his chief mechanic in the pits.

Elsewhere, Marco Andretti was fined $500 for opening his visor during a pit stop, which had been highlighted as a punishable offence during the drivers' meeting earlier in the weekend.

An identical fine was issued to a Dale Coyne Racing crew member for fuelling without the visor down, while other $500 fines were levied upon an Andretti Autosport crew member for violating rules 7.9.6 and 7.9.11 (which relate to keeping equipment within their assigned pits during a stop), and a KVSH crew member for going over the wall without a helmet.

All sanctions are subject to appeal in accordance with IndyCar regulations.
