Green appeals against Indy 500 decision
Team Green has officially appealed against the decision of the Indy Racing League to award victory in the 2002 Indianapolis 500 to Team Penske's Helio Castroneves over its driver Paul Tracy
The team believes that its driver Tracy passed Castroneves on lap 199 at Indy, and that he was in first position before the display of the yellow track light for a crash at Turn 2.
"I said straight after the race that if the facts warranted it, I would protest," said team boss Barry Green. "I have facts and I did protest. Since the protest, I have said that if anyone can show me facts proving I was in second place, I would go away. No one has shown me those facts. In fact, the deeper we dig, the more positive we are that we finished in first place.
"As a result, and after careful consideration, we are appealing the denial of our protest. I look forward to presenting and reviewing all the relevant evidence in order to arrive at a fair and unambiguous conclusion to this matter."
