Franchitti for Indy 500
Dario Franchitti will make his Indianapolis 500 debut in May after Team Green confirmed it is entering two cars in this year's race. Franchitti will drive a Dallara-Chevrolet alongside Paul Tracy, who will be making his fifth start at the Memorial Day classic
"When I came to race in America one of my goals was to race, and of course, win the Indianapolis 500," said the Scot. "Believe me, with Jim Clark winning the race in 1965 and Jackie Stewart earning Rookie of the Year, Indianapolis holds a special place in Scottish motor racing history. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway commands enormous respect and I know my first Indy 500 will be a unique experience, but I intend to add to Scotland's record."
This is the first time since Team Green won the 1995 race with Jacques Villeneuve that it has returned, but with the backing of its CART sponsors, team principal Barry Green is gunning for victory.
"Competing with all the IRL regulars at Indianapolis is certainly a challenge," he said. "But Dario, Paul and their crews have been working together since 1998 and have developed a very productive relationship in that time. I have every hope and expectation they'll be potential winners at Indy this year."
The team plans to run two test outings with the IRL cars before practice begins for the 500 on May 5.
