Esteban Gutierrez says he is up for trying IndyCar, where he has been named as a candidate to replace the injured Sebastien Bourdais at Dale Coyne Racing

Bourdais could miss the rest of the season following his accident during qualifying for the Indianapolis 500, which left him with hip and pelvis injuries.

The Frenchman was replaced at Indy by James Davison and while he remains in contention to drive for Coyne again this year, team boss Dale Coyne said ex-F1 racer Gutierrez is "high up our list".

Speaking to Autosport during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, Gutierrez said: "IndyCar could be good - there is a lot of interest.

"Right now IndyCar is growing, and you can see that with Fernando [Alonso]'s involvement there [for the Indy 500].

"It's going up, and they've presented a new car [for 2018] which is beautiful.

"Whatever proper racing comes along, I'm up for it."

Gutierrez landed a drive with the Techeetah team in Formula E part-way through the current season, but he said he wants a busier schedule with only three race weekends remaining in the current campaign.

"Formula E is great, I'm enjoying it, but honestly I need more racing," he added. "It's not enough for me.

"It would be nice to do something more - I'm trying to do something which is similar to F1.

"Opportunities can come up. There are some good opportunities out there, and I'm working on those."

Bourdais returned to Indianapolis on the morning of Sunday's 500, saying that he is keen to compete in the season finale at Sonoma on September 17 to remove any doubt over his recovery before the winter.

"It's a long process and there's no reason to rush," said Bourdais.

"But I'm shooting for the end of the season, Sonoma, that's just a good target.

"It's important to show that I'm still in good spirits, to show that physically I'm doing well and I have no intention to let this incident stop my career or anything.

"And it's even more important to come back before the end of the season because otherwise it's going to be an off-season with a lot of questions.

"We'll have a quick car in Sonoma, so we can kickstart 2018 on a good basis."
