Dominguez and PCM set for IRL move

Mario Dominguez has confirmed that he could join the IRL IndyCar Series with Pacific Coast Motorsports from next month's Indianapolis 500

Both Dominguez and the PCM team were left on the sidelines when the Champ Car World Series was merged into the IRL on the eve of the 2008 season, but they reconvened for this weekend's Long Beach event and took a superb third place.

Rumours persisted throughout the Long Beach meeting that Dominguez and PCM were set to announce an imminent move into the IndyCar Series, and after the race Dominguez confirmed that this was on the cards.

"Knock on wood, we'll be there with Pacific Coast Motorsports and myself as a driver by the Indy 500," he said.

"That will be my dream come true. Every since I can remember, I've always wanted to race in the Indy 500.

"I'm going to pray a lot and work hard to participate in that race, because it's been my dream forever."

In the wake of the merger announcement, Pacific Coast declared that they would aim to put together a two-car programme for the entire IndyCar Series, but were unable to complete a deal in time for the opening rounds.

Long Beach was the team's first outing of the season, and Dominguez showed their potential by taking fourth in Friday qualifying and then finishing third in the race after a late move on Walker Racing's Alex Tagliani.

"It was a tough pass - he sure braked late and he wasn't giving me any room. It was very close but thank God I made it," said the Mexican.

"I'm just very, very happy to give Pacific Coast Motorsports third place. It's very well deserved, they're a hard-working team and I'm so happy to give them their best result."
