Cheever may make return
IRL IndyCar Series team owner Eddie Cheever could be planning a return to the cockpit for the Indianapolis 500 when he admitted last week that his Red Bull Team Cheever squad is considering running a third Chevrolet-powered Dallara alongside team regulars Alex Barron and Ed Carpenter at IMS in May
Cheever declined to name who the likely driver would be. Although the 1998 Indy 500 winner didn't rule out making another run himself.
"Chevrolet asked us if we would be running a third car for the Indianapolis 500...and we told them that is definitely a consideration for us," said Cheever, who denied speculation about a potential shortage of engines at Indy was causing him a concern. "I have not heard of any shortage of engines for the coming year.
"For Indy, we are changing from a 3.5-litre to 3-litre, and I have not heard any problems with that. I'm sure it will stretch the ability of all of the engine manufacturers to get the engines out there on time, but I have not heard anything to lead me to believe that they will not have enough engines.
"As a team, we are very happy with the drivers that we have for this season. We have a very good mix between Alex and Ed. They are both at two different parts of their career. My driving career is no longer a priority for this race team. I really don't know what else to add to that. We will be running a third car and it has not been decided who will be driving."
