Castroneves penalised
IRL officials have penalised driver Helio Castroneves for jumping a restart late in the Chevy 500 on Sunday evening
Castroneves, driver of the No. 3 Marlboro Team Penske Dallara/Toyota/ Firestone, will keep his victory in the IRL IndyCar Series season finale, but was fined $50,000 and docked 15 driver points for accelerating prior to the designated restart point on the track during the final restart.
Castroneves remains fourth in the final point standings.
Meanwhile, Alex Barron was released Sunday afternoon from Harris Methodist Hospital in Bedford, Texas, after being treated for a mild concussion, Red Bull Cheever Racing team officials said.
Barron was transported by ambulance to the hospital after his car crashed in the final laps of the Chevy 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. He was released shortly after being evaluated and returned to Indianapolis, where he is expected to undergo further exams.
Barron was following Dario Franchitti's car into turn four with 15 laps remaining in the 200-lap race when Franchitti's car broke and spun. Franchitti, who broke a bone in his foot when the car broke and spun during practice Saturday, was not seriously injured.
