Camara impresses in IRL test
Indy Pro Series graduate Jaime Camara impressed reigning IndyCar Series champions Andretti-Green Racing in his IRL test debut at Nashville
The 25-year-old Brazilian lapped within 0.2 seconds of former IRL champion Tony Kanaan during a 90 lap run.
"The test went really well," said Camara. "I didn't know exactly what to expect when I got in the car because an IndyCar has a lot more downforce, grip and power than I'm used to.
"You feel a lot more G forces in the car at a place like Nashville because I have to lift in my (Pro Series) car, but there was no lifting in the IndyCar.
"An IndyCar ride is not easy to find, but I'm going to try to find one for 2007.
"This test was a big step in my career and I think I showed the team that I can do a good job in an IndyCar."
In an effort to boost the fields in its IPS feeder series, the IRL has offered bonus test days to IndyCar teams who run satellite operations in the IPS.
AGR therefore set up an IPS team for 25-year-old Brazilian Camara, who won twice in the 2005 series and currently holds seventh in the standings.
"This is a great opportunity for a young driver like Jaime, who has shown a lot of potential in the Indy Pro Series," said AGR president Kim Green.
"It's also important for AGR to help develop young drivers, which is something we always have an interest in."
