Andretti not ruling out more races

IndyCar veteran Michael Andretti has left the door open for further races in the future after coming out of retirement to race in this year's Indianapolis 500

Andretti finished third in his first Indy 500 since quitting the sport three years ago. Andretti, who has never won the sport's biggest race, was leading with three laps to go. However, his son Marco and eventual winner Sam Hornish Jr passed the 43-year-old before the chequered flag.

Andretti says he will not make an immediate decision on whether he will go back into retirement or not, and he admitted that coming so close to victory this year makes him consider his options carefully.

Texas Motor Speedway president Eddie Gossage last week offered $100,000 USD in sponsorship if both Andretti and fellow IndyCar returnee Al Unser Jr stay out of retirement and compete in the Bombardier Learjet 500k at the track on June 10th.

"It's a little disappointing, you know, coming that close again," Michael said. "I've just got to sit back and see. I'll wait a few months to make my decision on whether I want to do it or not.

"It was a lot of hard work to do what we did. Coming up this close, coming this close, though, it does irk you, but still feel like you have a little unfinished business."

He added that had the final yellow flag period not happened - thrown for Felipe Giaffone's Turn 2 accident - he would have won the race.

"It's as simple as that," he said. "I know it was a shame. When I saw that yellow, I was like, 'No, no, no.' Then I knew it was going to be a shootout, and I didn't have the speed for a shootout.

"So I was hoping that the yellow would go. I was hoping when they had the wave around that there would be another crash or something, you know, that the yellow would stay out.

"But it didn't, and I think if it would have been three laps to go, it could have been a little different story. But five laps to go was just too many laps for me to hold them off."
