Andretti confirms Indy 500 entry
Michael Andretti has confirmed that he will return to the cockpit for the Indianapolis 500 this year, as he bids to take his first victory in the blue riband event
The American finished third last season, after seeing son Marco just miss out on victory to Sam Hornish Jr, but the former CART champion has never won the event despite starting it 15 times. His best finish was second in 1991.
Although his return last year was primarily aimed at helping out his son, his near miss on the win has left him fired up to end that victory drought.
"Last year when I returned, at first it was all about getting to race with Marco," Andretti said. "Then, we both had a shot at winning it, and I knew it would be very tough for me to walk away knowing that I'm still very capable of winning that race.
"I'm obviously very excited to know that I'm going to have another chance to win the Indianapolis 500."
Andretti is set to head a five-car effort from his Andretti Green Racing team. He will line up alongside Marco, Tony Kanaan, Dario Franchitti and Danica Patrick.
