AGR expect Foyt IV to impress

Andretti-Green Racing believe that A.J. Foyt IV will surprise his critics in this weekend's Chicagoland race

Foyt IV was the shock choice to deputise for Dario Franchitti, who suffered a concussion while competing at the Goodwood Revival meeting last weekend.

In three seasons with grandfather A.J. Foyt's IRL IndyCar Series team, Foyt IV's best results were a pair of ninth places.

He left single-seaters at the end of 2005 with the intention of establishing a NASCAR career but has only managed a handful of Busch Series appearances.

However, Andretti-Green team manager John Anderson is confident that Foyt IV just needs the right machinery in order to impress.

"I've never worked with A.J. before but I'm looking forward to doing so this weekend," Anderson said.

"He put in some quality performances in the past with a limited budget so the promise is definitely there.

"I'm really looking forward to getting him in the Klein Tools/Canadian Club car to assess him.

"I think he's got the talent to be there and I think we're going to have a great weekend."

AGR have already signed Marco Andretti, Tony Kanaan and Danica Patrick for the 2007 IRL season, when they will also run an American Le Mans Series programme. It is not yet clear whether the team will continue with their fourth IndyCar entry.

Although AGR are reportedly still in negotiation with Franchitti regarding next season, he has been tipped for a return to the Champ Car World Series.
