IRL completes 2012 panel line-up

IndyCar is set to adopt new rules in two years' time, with concepts from Lola, Dallara, Swift and new organisations DeltaWing and BAT all under consideration.

Series chief Randy Bernard recently announced the creation of the panel, which will evaluate each proposal and canvass the views of all those involved in IndyCar racing.

Double Champ Car champion and 2003 Indianapolis 500 winner Gil de Ferran, now co-owner of Luczo Dragon/de Ferran Motorsports, has already been named as the teams' representative on the committee.

Former Jaguar boss and FIA technical consultant Purnell and long-time senior Ford/Jaguar official Ressler are among the latest additions, while Texas Motor Speedway boss Eddie Gossage will represent the IndyCar circuits.

Rick Long, head of Indy Lights engine supplier Speedway Engine Development, IRL competition president Brian Barnhart and his former deputy Tony Cotman, now a consultant to the series and race director for Indy Lights, complete the ICONIC line-up. The committee will be run by retired Air Force general William R Looney III.

"I feel that this advisory committee best represents a group of experts that encompass the key areas of car development, and I'm confident that they will do their best to come up with an objective recommendation on the future car that is in the best interest of the sport," said Bernard.

"Their goal is to keep in mind key attributes like safety, competition, industry-relevance and cost-containment while evaluating avenues for the future chassis and engine.

"This is one of the most important decisions the Indy Racing League will make this decade so I want to be sure we do our due diligence before committing to any future direction."
