Alex Tagliani will return to the IndyCar Series field with AJ Foyt Racing for the Indianapolis 500 and the venue's road course race in May.
Canadian veteran Tagliani joins Foyt's full-season drivers Takuma Sato and Jack Hawksworth in a third Dallara-Honda.
He made a one-off appearance with the team for last year's 500, but the road course race will be his first such IndyCar event since he last competed in the series regularly with Bryan Herta Autosport in 2013.
"It will be difficult because I haven't driven an IndyCar on a road course in several years," said Tagliani.
"Jumping in the car on a road course in something that is very new will be tough, but the positive is that I will be in the car for the month of May.
"Getting used to the guys and working with the team is very important if you want to maximise the performance of the driver, the team and the car."
Team owner and IndyCar legend AJ Foyt agreed that the additional race would be good for Tagliani and his crew.
"I'm glad to have Alex back in the car - he did a great job last year, he even led the race," Foyt said.
"It was just for a couple laps, but still he led the race. We know he can run fast.
"Plus I think the crew will be a little more tuned up this year by doing two races instead of one."
Tagliani was a CART/Champ Car and then IndyCar regular from 2000 until he stepped down from his BHA seat mid-way through a disappointing '13 campaign.
The 43-year-old, who has a single top-line US single-seater win to his name from the 2004 Road America Champ Car event, has since raced primarily in sportscars and stock car series.
This season will also feature his first campaign in Europe, as he joins former Formula 1 team Zakspeed to race a Mercedes in the Blancpain GT Series' Endurance Cup.
