Indianapolis IndyCar: KV's Sebastien Bourdais leads first practice
Sebastien Bourdais set the pace in the opening practice session for this weekend's IndyCar race on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course
Bourdais moved into the top spot just 15 minutes into the two-hour session, and reinforced his hold on first position with a 1m10.9378s.
The KV Racing Technology driver's time remained unbeaten for the rest of the morning, although reigning champion Will Power came close in the final minutes when he posted a time just 0.09 seconds slower.
Once again, Chevrolet-powered cars held the upper hand. Scott Dixon and last year's polesitter Sebastian Saavedra enjoyed brief stints as second-fastest before being relegated to third and fourth-quickest respectively, just ahead of last year's race winner Simon Pagenaud.
That left Takuma Sato as Honda's highest-placed representative; the Japanese racer popping up in fifth for Foyt right near the end, with Rahal Letterman Lanigan's Graham Rahal the only other Honda driver in the top 10.
The game of musical chairs associated with Dale Coyne Racing's #18 car continued, with its original occupant Carlos Huertas returning after a couple of races on the sidelines. The Colombian finished the morning with the 17th fastest time.
Elsewhere, JR Hildebrand drove a third CFH Racing entry to 21st-fastest to kick off his first IndyCar road course appearance since his one-off outing with Bryan Herta Autosport at Sonoma in 2013.
