Long Beach IndyCar: Will Power leads as Penske dominates practice
Will Power topped the times in another Penske-dominated session as practice continued for this weekend's IndyCar race in Long Beach
Power established himself at the top early on with a time in the 1m09s range, but later improved that to 1m07.5485s - 0.3 seconds faster than Ryan Hunter-Reay's pole time from last year.
Team-mate Simon Pagenaud also ducked under last year's pole mark with a lap just 0.04s shy of Power's, while Helio Castroneves was third-fastest, albeit another 0.3s down.
Ganassi's Scott Dixon managed to interrupt what would have been a Penske 1-2-3-4 by narrowly bettering Juan Pablo Montoya's best time.
An otherwise uneventful session was punctuated by the first red flag of the weekend, which was triggered when Andretti's Carlos Munoz poked his nose to the inside of Dale Coyne Racing debutant Rocky Moran Jr at Turn 1.
The pair made light contact and lurched into spins, which ended up with Munoz stranded in the middle of the track and Moran sliding backwards into the tyre barriers.
