Indy 500: Will Power leads Penske one-two in pre-qualifying practice
Will Power fell just short of breaking the 230mph mark when he set the fastest time in Saturday morning's final practice session before qualifying for the Indianapolis 500
Power went to the top of the timing charts with a best lap of 229.808mph to leave him clear of Penske team-mate AJ Allmendinger's 229.086mph.
The duo were the only two to post times above 229mph, with third-fastest Josef Newgarden clocking a 228.609mph effort for Sarah Fisher Hartman.
Light rain forced a stoppage with just under half an hour remaining, and while the session briefly restarted with a couple of minutes left, only Sebastian Saavedra took advantage of the opportunity to run more laps. The Colombian completed a couple of exploratory tours before the chequered flag was waved.
Andretti Autosport, which has led the times during much of the past week, did not participate in the session.
Speaking on Friday, Marco Andretti said he was confident that he had already learned as much as he could before qualifying.
"I'll be in my bed tomorrow morning," he said. "You don't learn a lot [in the final practice session]. In fact, you can fool yourself.
"So I think we are close enough from our last couple of runs that we can just run it and qualify."
