Milwaukee Indy Lights: Sage Karam takes pole position
Sage Karam will start Saturday's Indy Lights race at the Milwaukee Mile from pole after coming out on top from the qualifying session
The Schmidt driver was the third to head out for his two-lap run and went to the top with an average speed of 146.798mph, knocking off previous pacesetter and current points leader Carlos Munoz.
"We're not really a team that focuses much on qualifying; we're more about race set-up," said Karam. "So to focus on race set-up and then get pole is always a good surprise.
"It's always good when you outqualify the Andretti cars, because I really respect their programme and I know that they're strong on qualifying set-ups.
"It's going to be a tough race; the lapped traffic is going to be interesting, and you're going to have to conserve your tyres and yet push.
"So it's going to be pretty crazy, and I think the guys who raced here last year have a little advantage in knowing when to push and when not to."
Zach Veach also managed to better Munoz's time with an average just 0.088mph down on Karam's to secure himself the outside of the front row, with Peter Dempsey claiming the third-fastest speed.
