Barber Indy Lights: Zach Veach takes pole position
Zach Veach took pole position for the first race in this weekend's Indy Lights double-header at Barber
The Andretti driver, who also claimed pole at Long Beach a fortnight ago, produced a 1m17.6582s lap to move to the top of the timesheets with around seven minutes remaining, and his time stood until the chequered flag.
Before Veach made his move, the driver to beat had been his main title rival Gabby Chaves.
The Colombian did manage to improve his time in response to Veach, but not by enough to make a difference.
Indeed, it was not even enough for him to retain a place on the front row, with Alex Baron sneaking into second by just 0.06 seconds.
The grid for the second race on Sunday will be nominally based upon the second-fastest lap times from Friday's sole qualifying session, with the caveat that drivers can improve upon their starting positions if they post a lap faster than their qualifying time in Saturday's race.
