Sauber F1 driver Felipe Nasr wants Daytona 24 Hours return

Felipe Nasr is keen to return to the Daytona 24 Hours sportscar classic, if his Formula 1 commitments allow it

The Sauber driver contested the race in 2012 and '13, finishing third for Michael Shank Racing on his first appearance after landing a prize drive by winning the Sunoco Daytona Challenge.

He returned a year later with the Action Express team, which won Daytona in 2010 and last year, and is hopeful of being able to do so again in the future.

"I love Daytona and I would love to go back there in a top team," said Nasr when asked by AUTOSPORT about his Daytona experience.

"The doors are still open and every year they invite me to go back.

"If it doesn't clash with Formula 1 or anything else, it's one race I still want to go back to."

Nasr believes that contesting a race like Daytona is an effective way for an F1 driver to keep sharp during the off-season.

Provided it does not compromise preparations for the F1 season, he has no doubt any driver would benefit from the experience.

"It was a great experience, an amazing event and I still think you can learn so many things by driving so many hours in a car in a race with different cars around," said Nasr.

"F1 is my priority, there is no doubt about that, but the two years I did it was because there was no clash with the series I was doing at the time.

"In January, no other driver is doing anything so the best thing is to be in a racing car.

"You are learning, using new tyres, you are keeping yourself sharp."

Force India F1 driver Nico Hulkenberg put sportscar opportunities for grand prix racers in the headlines by winning the Le Mans 24 Hours with Porsche at his first attempt last weekend.
