McLaren F1's Zak Brown to drive two famous Porsches and Roush Ford

McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown will race two famous Porsches and a Roush Ford Mustang over the next two weekends, competing on both sides of the Atlantic

Brown is the co-owner of United Autosports alongside Richard Dean, and the McLaren boss will compete in the Porsches at Barcelona and then in the Mustang at Long Beach a week later.

In the Spanish Peter Auto Espiritu de Montjuich event, Brown will campaign a 1981 Porsche 935 JLP-3 in Classic Endurance Racing and an '86 Porsche 962 in the Group C race.

The Porsche 935 JLP-3 is believed to be the most successful 935 in existence and for many years was the only car to have won both the Daytona 24 Hours and Sebring 12 Hours in the same year, doing so in 1982.

The Porsche 962 won on its debut at the 1986 Six Hours of Riverside.

Price Cobb finished second in that year's IMSA GTP Championship and won Dyson Racing its second Porsche Cup.

In America, a week after his Porsche outing, Brown will race the Mustang in the Historic IMSA GTO Challenge at Long Beach.

The series will run in support of the contemporary IMSA SportsCar Championship, as IMSA continues celebrating its 50th anniversary.

"I'm looking forward to starting our historic racing season at Barcelona. I haven't raced at this event before," said Brown.

"I can't wait to get back behind the wheel of both the Porsche 962 and the Porsche 935.

"Racing the Mustang at Long Beach will be awesome too. It will be great to be celebrating 50 years of IMSA history."

The 1985 Roush Ford Mustang was raced in the SCCA TransAm series as both a Ford Capri and a Mustang by Willy T. Ribbs before Scott Pruett won the 1986 IMSA GTO Championship.

The car also won the 1986 Daytona 24 Hours race.
