Westward announces Panoz attack

Former CART team boss Peter Kuhn and veteran F1 and sportscar engineer Dave Simms have launched a new sportscar team called Westward Racing Group

The team will field a pair of Panoz LMP1 Roasters in the European Le Mans Series, the Le Mans 24 Hours and selected rounds of the ALMS this season.

"These are exciting times for sports car racing," said Kuhn. "TV ratings are on the ascent, the cars have never been more exciting, and Don Panoz is giving fans worldwide the value in racing they deserve."

Jay Cochran and Peter Boss have been named as the team's first two drivers, and the cars will be run from Norfolk in England, although its administrative base will be in New York, USA.

"I've got the resources and the personnel to focus my efforts on winning," said Sims, who is looking to add two more drivers to the squad. "Peter Kuhn and I are talking with several candidates but no other drivers are confirmed as yet."

Westward Racing's first event will be the Sebring 12 Hours race on March 17.
