Weaver and Wallace take Grand-Am pole
James Weaver and Andy Wallace set the pace in qualifying for the second round of the new Grand-Am Championship at Phoenix, but only after the Risi Ferrari had its times disallowed because of a technical infringement on the car's airbox
The decision promoted Weaver and Wallace's Dyson Racing R&S-Ford to the top spot, ahead of the Judd-powered car of Robinson Racing's George Robinson and Jack Baldwin.
Mimmo Schiattarella and Ralf Kelleners will now start from the rear of the grid. The Grand-Am series, a rival to the thriving American Le Mans Series, was supposed to run Sports Racers and GT cars in separate races, but with only nine prototypes and 13 GT cars, the decision was taken last week to combine the whole field.
The Doran Racing Ferrari-Judd hybrid of Fredy Lienhard and Didier Theys is likely to be Dyson's main opposition in the race. Lienhard qualified the car fourth behind Jon Field and Dale Whittington's Lola.
