Spa 24 Hours: Larbre takes second win
Larbre Competition notched up its second consecutive Spa 24 Hours victory, with Jean-Christophe Bouchut, David Terrien, Sebastien Bourdais and Vincent Vosse steering its Chrysler Viper home five laps ahead of the nearest opposition
The result boosts Bouchut's hopes of retaining his FIA GT Championship title as the 24 Hours counts as a double points scoring round.
The Viper only suffered one problem during the round-the-clock classic. Just after quarter distance, Vosse ended his stint early with a puncture. Terrien rejoined and lost his left-rear wheel at Les Combes. He got the car back to the pits, but lost the lead to The Carsport Holland Viper of Mike Hezemans and Anthony Kumpen.
But the Dutch Viper's race came to a fiery end in the ninth hour. Kumpen was tagged by a backmarker as he powered down the hill from La Source, spun backwards into the barrier and caught alight. The safety car period lasted for a mammoth three hours.
The Belmondo Viper provided the biggest threat to the Larbre car until Fabio Babini put the car into the barriers at three-quarters distance.
The British Lister team finished second, but the lead car driven by Jamie Campbell-Walter was excluded after he lost drive out of La Source and ducked into the pits using the Formula 1 exit. Bobby Verdon-Roe, Miguel de Castro, Justin Law and David Sterckx took up the baton in the other Storm to take a great second place for Lister.
Freisinger's Porsche driven by Stephane Ortelli, Emmanuel Collard and Romain Dumas claimed a comfortable N-GT class victory.
