Sepang Race of Champions postponed
The Le Mans Series Race of Champions event, scheduled for November 11 at Sepang in Malaysia, has been postponed due to international concerns following the terrorist attacks in America on September 11
The event will now be staged early in 2002, with a new date to be finalised at next week's Petit Le Mans event at Road Atlanta.
"The general uncertainty of the world's political situation as a result of the events of September 11 has caused everyone involved in this event to acknowledge the circumstances we are faced with and act accordingly," said Scott Atherton, president and COO of the Panoz Motor Sports Group. "We regret having to postpone the event, but feel it is the prudent action to take.
"This event, with the international movement of cars and equipment, is a major undertaking. After consultation with our teams and key stakeholders and sponsors, we will determine the most suitable date and make the announcement at Petit Le Mans."
Atherton indicated, meanwhile, that the postponement of the Malaysian event would not affect the running of Petit Le Mans.
"We look forward to holding a great event at Road Atlanta, and kicking off the New Year with a spectacular event in Malaysia," he added.
