Sebring GT runner-up excluded
The second placed White Lightning-Petersen Motorsports Porsche in Saturday's Sebring 12 Hours has been excluded from the race results due to a technical violation
After post-race inspection, officials of the International Motor Sports Association said that the onboard fuel capacity in the Porsche 911 GT3 RS exceeded the maximum allowable capacity of 100 litres. The car was driven in the race by Johnny Mowlem, Nic Jonsson and Craig Stanton.
As a result of the exclusion, the Seikel Motorsport Porsche driven by Gabrio Rosa, Alex Caffi and Andrea Chiesa has been elevated to the runner-up position in the GT class behind the winning Alex Job Racing Porsche of Sascha Maassen and Lucas Luhr.
White Lightning-Petersen Motorsports has decided to appeal against the decision under IMSA rules.
"We have already informed IMSA that we will be going through the official protest and appeal process," said team boss Dale White "We are disputing the testing method. We feel that we have a very good case and the Petersen Motorsports/White Lightning Racing entry will be reinstated in second-place in GT."
Autosport.com columnist Mowlem said: "I'll await the outcome of the appeal, but this doesn't alter how well we ran in the race. It certainly would have given us no performance advantage, either in terms of the car's speed or strategy, and although the rules have to be in black in white, I know that the team wouldn't be appealing if they didn't have a strong case."
