Sears: Magnussen edges Herbert

Herbert had been delayed by a puncture and put in a charge in the closing stages of the race to catch Magnussen. As they started the last lap, Magnussen encountered enough traffic to allow the Brit to close right up on to his tail.

On the dash to the flag, the Dane was baulked by a Porsche, but Herbert had his own problems and clashed with John Graham's Panoz. That allowed Magnussen to make it to the line first, with Herbert second - minus his rear wing. As a consolation, the runner-up spot was enough to give Herbert the championship lead.

The Panoz of Bryan Herta and Bill Auberlen finished third, ahead of James Weaver and Chris Dyson's Riley & Scott.

Ron Fellows and Johnny O'Connell claimed GTS honours and fifth overall, one place ahead of GT class victors Lucas Luhr and Sascha Maassen.

The works Audi of Frank Biela, Dindo Capello and Emanuele Pirro finished a distant 15th. Pole winner Pirro clashed with another car, damaging the R8's bodywork and right rear wheel. He pitted for repairs, losing 15 minutes in total.
