FIA GTs: Piccini claims Super Pole

Andrea Piccini continued his strong form at Jarama by claiming the Super Pole for Sunday's race. The Ferrari 550 driver beat the Chrysler Viper of Mike Hezemans into second place, to end his first ever Super Pole session at the head of the times

The Listers of Bobby Verdon-Roe and Jamie Campbell-Walter fill the second row, with Verdon-Roe just eight hundredths of a second quicker than his team-mate in third position. Viper drivers Marc Duez and Fabrizion Gollin complete the top six.

"That must have been one of the messiest Superpole laps ever," said Verdon-Roe. "Half of it was OK, but at the second hairpin, I broke late and had a big oversteering moment. I lost time, and while trying to get it back, I had another moment. I am however delighted to be third. It'll be a long race."

In N-GT it was an all-Porsche front row once more with Sascha Maasen comfortably quickest ahead of Antonio Garcia. Andrea Bertolini was third quickest in his Ferrari 360 Modena.

In the second qualifying session it was a similar story, as Jean-Denis Deletraz went fastest in the Ferrari 550 he shares with Piccini. Hezemans team-mate Anthony Kumpen continued the symmetry by going second fastest. It was left to the Labre competition driver of Christophe Bouchut to break the trend and the Frenchman set the third quickest time in his Viper, although he'll start seventh behind the Super Pole six.

Jean Pierre Jarier, who had his time disqualified in the first session for missing a random scrutineering check, was fourth quickest. Stephane Ortelli was once again quickest in N-GT in his Porsche 996 GT3-R.
