Qual: Saleen thrives

The Konrad Motorsport Saleen S7 driven by Walter Lechner Jr will start from pole in tomorrow's FIA GT race at Donington Park. It has become customary for the American car to start from the front slot in FIA GTs but this time Lechner Jr needed the weather to help him along a little bit

The first of today's two qualifying sessions was wet but dried somewhat towards the end. A fleet of Ferraris looked set to dominate the front two rows in the wet conditions, but the Austrian driver made a late dash on intermediates to snatch the top spot.

"I was on the limit and couldn't go any faster so I decided to try intermediate tyres as there wasn't much standing water and they were perfect," said Lechner

"We are on pole but we must now hope that it rains this afternoon and that way I will keep it and have a good race tomorrow. I like the rain, I perform very well when it is wet and you can always rely on it to rain at Donington."

It did rain in the second session and that settled the issue.

Reigning champion Matteo Bobbi will start second on the grid in the BMS Scuderia Italia Ferrari ahead of the Care Racing Ferrari of Livio/Calderari/Bryner. Championship leaders Cappelari and Gollin start fourth in the second of the BMS cars.
