Pruett claims Daytona pole
Scott Pruett has put Chip Ganassi Racing's Lexus Riley on the pole for this weekend's Daytona 24 Hours. Pruett set a new Daytona Prototype track record with his 1m45.783 lap at 121.154mph, shaving more than four seconds off the previous record held by David Donohue.
"I've got to take my hat off to all the Ganassi guys," said the 2003 Trans-Am champion, who has moved to the Grand-Am series this year with Ganassi. "If you had seen the car the way it got delivered to us back at Christmas, you would have thought we'd be hard-pressed to get turned around here. The guys did a great job."
Max Angelelli put the SunTrust Racing Pontiac Riley in the outside pole position, while defending Daytona Prototype champion Terry Borcheller will start on the second row in the Bell Motorsports Pontiac Doran.
"We felt like our qualifying run was really good. We're happy. We're two seconds faster than our practice time. So that's impressive," said Borcheller.
Andy Wallace will lineup beside Borcheller on the second row in the CITGO Chevrolet Crawford of Howard-Boss Motorsports.
Johannes van Overbeek posted the fastest qualifying time in the GT class with his 1:53.357 lap at 113.059mph at the wheel of the Flying Lizard Porsche GT3 RS.
