Papis to make Daytona 24 Hours return
Out-of-work Champ Car star Max Papis will make a return to sportscar racing with the crack US team Doran Racing in next month's Daytona 24 Hours
The Italian, who raced for the team back in 1996 before getting his break in CART, will share a Dallara prototype with experienced veterans Mauro Baldi, Didier Theys and the car's owner Fredy Lienhard. Papis has also been tipped to join the team for more races, including the Sebring 12 Hours in March.
"I'm particularly happy to be back with Doran Racing," Papis said. "We had special moments together and I'm looking forward to new ones as well. I recently had a seat fitting in Cincinnati and I took a close look at the Dallara. I was very impressed with the car and its attention to detail, beside the fact it's Italian like me!
"It is just great to be back in Daytona again with Doran Racing - they helped me start my new career in the USA and I'm particularly glad to go back to the speedway where the name 'Mad Max' was born."
Papis will be on hand to drive the car for the first time today (Thursday) at the start of a three day test at Daytona. The race takes place on February 2/3.
The 32-year-old has a good record at the Daytona 24 Hours. He finished second at the race in '96 and third in '99.
