MG sets new Le Mans targets
The MG marque, which returned to the Le Mans 24 Hours for the first time in decades last year, has set new goals for this year's event after a series of successful tests in America and Europe
In last year's race, the LMP675 machine proved its pace but both of its cars went out with technical problems. This year, MG has pledged to get to the finish of the French sportscar classic.
"Last year our goal was to get there and show our pace," said MG's Robert Oldaker at AUTOSPORT International at the Birmingham NEC today (Thursday). "To get to the finish is our next hurdle. We showed we were quick last year, and now we need to add durability to that pace. Our goal for this year is to finish in a good place."
MG has been hard at work over the winter improving the characteristics of its turbo-powered engine. The changes resulted in a new sportscar lap record of the Sebring track in Florida at the end of last year - faster even than Audi's all-conquering R8.
"Sebring was a fantastic test," said driver Jonny Kane. "We were faster than Audi managed, and we were on old tyres and had a decent amount of fuel on board. It's a great car, it does just what you want it to do."
