Oschersleben: Ferrari's disputed win

Tomas Biagi and Matteo Bobbi are the provisional winners of the FIA GT race in Oschersleben today (Sunday). Although they crossed the line second, the Lister that was first on the road was excluded for causing an avoidable accident

The accident occurred when Jamie Campbell-Walter collided with Philippe Alliot's Chrysler Viper as he lapped him in the closing stages of the race, which resulted in a spectacular excursion for Alliot. The crash appears to have caused some considerable bad blood between the drivers, and an appeal from Lister has been lodged. The Lister had come through the field from seventh place on the grid at the start of the three-hour race.

Provisionally, Biagi and Bobbi have consolidated their lead in the championship and will be hoping to take the title next time out at Estoril. Another Lister, the Verdon-Roe/Zadra example, came in second, with the Bryner/Calderari/Livio Ferrari completing the podium.

The Mike Hezemans/Anthony Kumpen Viper retired after 71 laps whilst the pole position Saleen of Walter Lechner Jr/Franz Konrad/Toni Seiler was also excluded by the stewards for an as-yet-unknown reason.

Andrea Bertolini and Fabrizio De Simone took their second win of the season in the N-GT category. They lead a Ferrari sweep by their JMB Racing car and the two Team Maranello Concessionaires Ferrari 360 Modenas. A tight race saw Bertolini (who started in the class pole) cross the line in an excellent 5th place overall, although a number of the top-flight cars dropped out.
