Maserati Fastest, Corvette on Pole

The Michael Bartels/Timo Scheider Vitaphone Racing Maserati MC12 went fastest in the second and final qualifying session for tomorrow's FIA GT Championship round at Imola, but the GLPK-Carsport Corvette's session one time remained good enough for pole position

In a 45-minute session in which only three cars bettered their morning times, the German pair in the Maserati went almost a second quicker than anyone else to head the timesheets, but they will start only fourth, where they finished the morning session.

Fresh from his victory with Aston Martin at Silverstone, Pedro Lamy was to the fore again, this time in the Larbre Competition Ferrari 550 Maranello which he shares with Gabriele Gardel. They set the second best time, as they had in the morning and will start second.

Third best this afternoon was the pole-winning Chevy of Mike Hezemans, Anthony Kumpen and Bert Longin with the Konrad Motorsport Saleen S7 R of Walter Lechner Jr and Matteo Bobbi making it four different car in the top four in the session.

Marc Lieb and Mike Rockenfeller beat their Gruppe M Racing teammates Emmanuel Collard and Tim Sugden to the top time in this session, but it is the Anglo-French Sugden/Collard Porsche GT3 RSR crew which will sit on the GT2 pole tomorrow, courtesy of its better session one time.
