Lammers signs up for Sebring
Reigning FIA Sportscar champion Jan Lammers will join Chris Dyson and Didier de Radigues in a Dyson Racing Lola-MG for next Saturday's Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring
The 47-year-old Dutchman, who runs a pair of Dome-Judds under the Racing for Holland banner in the FIA Sportscar Championship, has never won the Sebring 12 Hour race, despite numerous sorties across the pond during his long sportscar career.
"Jan represents the final part of our plan for Sebring," said Dyson, the team's sporting director as well as driver. "Like Dyson Racing, Jan's won twice at the Daytona 24-hour race, and like us, he's still looking for his first overall win at Sebring. His vast racing experience is a positive addition to our effort."
Indeed Lammers is a winner at the Le Mans 24-hour race for Jaguar in 1988 with current Dyson driver Andy Wallace. Lammers' resume includes impressive results in both sports car and formula car racing. His Daytona 24-hour victories came in 1988 and 1990, also with Jaguar. His latter Daytona victory also came sharing the wheel with Wallace.
"It's a pleasure for me to join America's best sports car racing team for America's oldest and most prestigious sports car race," said Lammers. "Like my new team-mates, I still have a score to settle at Sebring. I've won two of the top three sports car races in the world, and I want to add the third. This is always a tough race; from the standpoint of physical demands on the car.
"Twelve hours here is more demanding than 24 hours at Le Mans or Daytona. But I think I'm with a team that has the resources to handle those demands. Dyson Racing has a great organization; I've wanted to run with them for years. I think we have an excellent chance for a good result."
Dyson Racing's other Lola will be driven by Britons James Weaver and Andy Wallace as well as American driver Butch Leitzinger.
