Herbert ready for more Audi action
Former Formula 1 star Johnny Herbert says he is keen for more American Le Mans Series action with the Champion Audi squad after finishing fourth on his series debut at Sears Point over the weekend
The 37-year-old from Essex shared the privately-run Audi R8 with fellow former Le Mans winner Andy Wallace on Sunday. They finished behind both works Audi machines and the Panoz of David Brabham/Jan Magnussen after being unlucky to lose a lap during a badly timed caution period.
"I will definitely do some more ALMS races with Andy and the Champion Audi team," said Herbert. "I'll be coming back for more after that - I haven't enjoyed myself as much for a long time. It was so relaxing and enjoyable, just like motor racing should be.
"It will be hard to beat the factory Audis, because they have the very latest modifications, but we stand a very good chance, especially when we've all gelled together a bit more," he added.
Herbert has been confirmed at Champion for the next race, at Portland on August 5, and Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta on October 6.
"We are fired up for the next race," said Herbert. "We know pace-wise we are podium material, without a doubt. Driving an Audi makes it even more special. Andy and I are happy racing together. We're here to convey to everybody that we will be at Portland on the podium."
