GT ace Peter Kox splits with Reiter Lamborghini team

Sportscar stalwart Peter Kox has called time on his successful relationship with the Reiter Lamborghini organisation that stretches back 15 years

The Dutchman said that "the time had come to move on" from Reiter Engineering, without giving detailed reasons for a decision that he revealed was "a little bit complicated".

Kox had no drive with Reiter lined up for 2015, although he said there had been a programme in the offing that hadn't come to fruition.

"There was something scheduled, but it wasn't sure," Kox told AUTOSPORT.

"I'm not a guy who gets on the phone and I have been so closely related to Reiter over the years that I wanted it to be known I was available."

Kox, who was central to the development of the Diablo, Murcielago and Gallardo racing Lamborghinis, said that the highlight of his years with Reiter was "helping to put the company on the motor racing map".

"I think we have achieved a lot together and I wish Hans Reiter and his team all the best for the future," he continued.

His successes at the wheel of Reiter Lambos included winning the 2010 ADAC GT Masters title with Albert von Thurn und Taxis driving a Reiter-built Gallardo LP560 run by the Abt team.

He also took overall or class victories in the FIA GT1 World Championship and its successor, the FIA GT Series, the Le Mans Series, Blancpain Endurance Series, Italian GT Championship, GT Open and Superstars GT.

Kox, who had worked with Hans Reiter at the Schnitzer BMW team in 1995 and '97, gave the German organisation's new Lamborghini Diablo GT a debut at the Estoril FIA GT Championship round in 2001 together with Oliver Gavin.

The next race for Kox and Gavin at the wheel of a Reiter Lambo, the new Murcielago R-GT, almost yielded victory at the Valencia FIA GT round.

Kox will this season contest the Creventic endurance series with the Scuderia Praha Ferrari team and in selected races at the wheel of a McLaren 650S GT3 run under the Kox Racing banner with car owner Nico Pronk.
