Gavin to join Dyson at Daytona
Briton Oliver Gavin has landed a plum drive for next February's Daytona 24 hours sportscar classic
The 29-year-old Briton has been signed by crack US team Dyson Racing to join the driver line-up of their lead car for the Florida round-the-clock enduro.
He will share one of the team's venerable Ford-powered Riley & Scott MkIIIs with Dyson stalwarts James Weaver and Butch Leitzinger as they begin the defence of their back-to-back Grand-Am Series titles. The trio will start the race as favourites, with Dyson having won Daytona overall in 1997 and 1999, as well as winning the prototype class in the last two years.
"I've been trying to land a drive with Dyson for the past two seasons, and this is a great opportunity," said Gavin.
"As I understand it I will share with James and Butch, which will a fantastic chance to way to learn from top sportscar drivers in my first ever Daytona. We have a very good chance."
Gavin has competed against Dyson for the past two years in the US-based Grand-Am series while sharing Jon Field's Intersport Racing Lola-Judd B2K/10. He also was part of the factory Saleen GTS team this year, racing in the other major sportscar classics at Sebring, Le Mans and Petit Le Mans.
