Final qualifying: Audi on pole
Just six minutes into the final qualifying session at Laguna Seca, Rinaldo Capello set a new lap record of 1m15.028s in his Audi R8. No one could beat that time, so Capello and his Audi team mate Allan McNish will start from pole in Sunday's round 10 of the ALMS
Jan Magnussen, who was the overnight polesitter after setting the pace on Friday, will start the Panoz LMP-1 that he shares with team mate Australian David Brabham in second. Magnussen did improve on the lap record he set on Friday, but his 1m15.147s wasn't quite enough to keep pole.
The second Audi pairing of Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro couldn't improve on the time that they set yesterday, but the 1m15.823s lap set during first qualifying was good enough to give them third place.
The BMW of JJ Lehto and Jorg Muller will start from fourth, and the Panoz of Johhny O'Connell and Hiroki Katoh hold the fifth spot.
The Corvette of Ron Fellows and Andy Pilgrim are the leading pair in the GTS class, with Sasha Maassen and Bob Wolleck in their Dick Barbour Racing Porche the fastest in the GT class.
