Ex-F1 driver Fisichella to make Spa 24 Hours debut in Ferrari

Ex-Formula 1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella will race in the Spa 24 Hours for the first time in July

The Ferrari factory driver, whose primary programme in 2016 is with Risi Competizione in the IMSA SportsCar Championship, will drive a new 488 GT3 in the Blancpain GT Series as part of partial campaign in the Endurance Cup element of the championship.

Fisichella will share a seat in the Pro-Am class car with fellow factory driver Olivier Beretta.

Each will do two of the shorter rounds and both will race at Spa on July 30-31, when four drivers are allowed in Pro-Am.

The car will be driven at Monza and Silverstone by Fisichella, before Beretta takes over for Paul Ricard and the Nurburgring either side of Spa.

They will share the car with full-season drivers Lorenzo Bontempelli and Motoaki Ishikawa.

AF Corse is entering a total of six cars in the Endurance Cup this season.

It will field two cars in the pro class, one 488 and one 458, for the first time.

The new car will be driven by Alessandro Pier Guidi, Michele Rugolo and Pasin Lathouras, while the line-up in the old Ferrari will be Alessandro Balzan, Raffaele Giammaria and Ezequiel Perez Companc.

Reigning Pro-Am champions Matt Griffin and Duncan Cameron will defend their title in a 488 this year.

AF will also run one 488 and one 458 in the Am category.

The Italian team, which is Ferrari's factory representative in the World Endurance Championship, will receive its first 488 GT3 this week.

Team boss Amato Ferrari said that it would have a full complement of new cars on the grid at the opening Endurance Cup round at Monza on April 24.

The team is running the two 458s that will race in the series at the official BGTS test taking place at Paul Ricard on Wednesday and Thursday, as well as a third old car for Bontempelli and Ishikawa.
