Earnhardts get first taste of Corvette
Both Dale Earnhardt Senior and Junior had their first taste this week of the Chevrolet Corvette C5-R they will race in the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona next February
NASCAR's leading father and son duo tested the GTS class car at Sebring in Florida for three days, alongside expatriate Brit Andy Pilgrim, with whom they will share the car.
"Probably the biggest challenge is adapting to the difference in weight from a Winston Cup car and how it reacts under braking," said Earnhardt Snr. "We're here to learn and we're here as part of a team with the other drivers. We're not special guys, we're really rookies."
Earnhardt Jnr added: "Like dad says, we have a large lack of experience, and I'm just trying to pick up as much as I can so I can be as competitive as possible when the 24-hour race comes around. This is a neat deal and I'm really excited about it."
Neither Earnhardt had driven a GT car before, but both impressed Pilgrim.
"I think both of them did an awesome job, and I'm not just saying that" he said. "I mean, to jump into a car you've never been in before at a track you've never seen before, and then get up to speed as fast as they both did...I think it's just fantastic. We should have a good team at Daytona."
