Donington FIA GT: Lister hopes hit

Jamie Campbell-Walter and Nicolaus Springer's hopes of taking the FIA GT Championship title were dealt a blow as technical problems blunted their challenge at Donington Park. The pair now trail David Terrien and Christophe Bouchut by five-and-a-half points and three-and-a-half points respectively

The pairing started second, and ran behind pole-man Jean-Marc Gounon's Scuderia Italia Ferrari 550 Maranello in the first few laps before tangling with the sister Ferrari of Andrea Piccini at Goddards on lap four. The Lister Storm, with Campbell-Walter at the wheel, then pitted with a technical problem brought on by the collision, before rejoining well over ten laps behind the leaders.

However, Campbell-Walter remains in with a chance of the title after championship leaders David Terrien and Christiophe Bouchut struggled. Terrien finished fifth driving alongside Carl Rosenblad, while Bouchut, driving the sister Larbre Chrysler Viper alongside Vincent Vosse, retired before the two-hour mark.

Victory in the three-hour race went to the Carsport Holland Chrysler Viper pairing of Mike Hezemans and Anthony Kumpen, their first win of the season, ahead of the pole-winning Ferrari 550 Maranello of Enzo Calderari, Lilian Bryner and pole-man Jean-Marc Gounon that led early on.

The second Lister Storm of British GT champion Ian McKellar Jr and David Warnock retired with an engine problem after running as high as third early on, while the Philippe Alliot/David Hallyday Viper also fell by the wayside while in third place.

Stephane Ortelli sealed the NGT class title with a sixth victory of the season driving a Porsche 996 GT3-RS alongside Euro F3000 points leader Romain Dumas.

Antonio Garcia and Horst Felbermayr Jr took second in class in their Porsche, with Christian Pescatori and Dieter Bertolini completing the podium. Johnny Mowlem took an impressive fourth place on a one-off appearance in a JVG Racing Porsche, taking the position with one lap remaining when Toto Wolff spun under pressure.
