Ben Collins Q&A

Ben Collins has switched his attentions away from single seater racing to compete in this year's renamed FIA Sportscar Championship for the Ascari team. Having driven in British F3 and Indy Lights in America, Collins has decided it's time for a change of direction to further his racing career. Autosport.com caught up with last year's Marlboro Masters of F3 runner-up to find out why

"My direction has always been to drive in the most competitive series I could, and beat the best drivers. Plans don't last long in racing but I've always wanted to race in Le Mans in a proper car and now I have the chance."

"Definitely not. I still dream of racing in Champ Cars or Formula 1 but, for me, driving the Ascari is like driving a single-seater anyway, so I'm in no rush to leave the series."

"All good. The organisation seems to be as strong as last year but I guess I'll see more of what's new at the first race this weekend. I think there's a lot more entries this year so the FIA series should be very competitive."

"The boys at Ascari are great and made me feel really comfortable straight away. I've only done a couple of tests with the whole team but they gave me a lot of confidence, so I think I'm settling in well."

"We know the car is reliable now and there's no lack of speed, so I think the team are optimistic. Ascari is a very professional outfit and I know we'd do a great job at Le Mans, so fingers crossed."

"Werner is a great guy and he's certainly quick. We push each other but we share a car so we actually want each other to be fast and do well, which is so different to normal racing. He does get upset when I beat him at Daytona [racing game] though!"

"I found the car very natural to drive and what I know from single-seaters seems to work with the Ascari. I have a lot to learn about long distance racing, so I'm lucky to have an experienced team-mate and a solid team."

"You'll have to ask Mystic Meg that one, but I know we'll do well."
