Audi adds Le Mans stars Lotterer and Fassler to Spa 24 Hours bid
Three-time Le Mans winners Andre Lotterer and Marcel Fassler are among the additions to the Blancpain Endurance Series grid for the blue-riband Spa 24 Hours round next month
The factory LMP1 drivers will drive a new Audi R8 LMS for the Phoenix Racing squad together with another former winner of the Le Mans 24 Hours in Mike Rockenfeller at the Spa enduro on July 25/26.
Lotterer and Fassler are returning to Phoenix, with which they finished sixth at Spa in 2012 sharing with sportscar legend Tom Kristensen, after two seasons driving for the Belgian WRT squad
The second of the latest-generation R8s entered by Phoenix, winner of the race 2007 and 2012 with Chevrolet and Audi respectively, will be shared by Nicki Thiim, Christopher Mies and Christian Mammerow.
The Belgian Marc VDS squad, which finished a close second at Spa last year, has entered two BMW Z4 GT3s after rejoining the BES at last weekend's Paul Ricard round.
BMW DTM drivers Maxime Martin and Augusto Farfus Jr are listed in one and team regulars Nicky Catsburg and Markus Palttala in the other, with the third driver in each to be confirmed.
The Black Falcon squad has entered a second Mercedes-Bens SLS AMG in the Pro Cup class for team regular Adam Christodoulou, Belgian Nico Verdonck and a yet-to-be-confirmed driver.
Additions to the entry list, which include the for Alessandro Zanardi, Bruno Spengler and Timo Glock, bring the entry for the Pro Cup class at Spa to 28.
A total of 66 entries have been received for the double-points round of the BES.
The AF Corse Ferrari squad had entered a 458 Italia in the Pro-Am class for a roster of drivers that includes reigning World Endurance Championship GT title winner Gianmaria Bruni and Alessandro Pierguidi.
The Australian Lago Racing squad will return to Spa for a second season with its updated Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 R-EX.
V8 Supercars legend Craig Lowndes - who last weekend - moves across to its Pro-Am line-up after racing an AF Corse Ferrari at Spa last year and will join Steve Owen and David Russell, who are both endurance drivers in V8s.
Nissan LMP1 driver Olivier Pla has been drafted into the Japanese manufacturer's Pro-Am class GT-R NISMO GT3, while Dirk Muller will join British squad Triple Eight's BMW line-up.
The official entry list for the 67th running of the Spa 24 Hours was published today ahead of the official test day for the race.
