ALMS extra: Wallace’s Audi first impressions

British sportscar ace Andy Wallace got his first acquaintance with the all-conquering Audi R8 during pre-race testing with the Champion team for the opening round of the American Le Mans Series at the Texas Motor Speedway this weekend

"It's lovely, oh yes. I thought it might be a bit of a fight because Champion Racing haven't had the chance to test the car since it was delivered, but everything worked straight away. It's a really good car. The traction and grip are superb, though it's not easy to read under braking."

"It's really simple and I only made one mistake in that first session."

"Let's just say that it's a quantum leap forward."

"Now that I've driven the car I feel really confident. Dorsey Schroeder [Wallace's team mate] and I shouldn't be that far away. The Joest cars will be difficult to beat, but you never know. They've got a year's start on us, but if we get the car to the finish we should be near the front."

"It should be a good year for me. I'm going to be very busy, but I recognise that I'm very lucky to have all these drives. It's great to be back in the American Le Mans Series with Audi. Daytona wasn't to be, but I know every time I climb aboard the Dyson Riley & Scott that I'm getting into a winning car. And to drive a Bentley at Le Mans is going to be an amazing experience for an Englishman."
