Richard Westbrook takes World GT1 pole for JRM Nissan at Paul Ricard
Nissan driver Richard Westbrook topped qualifying for this weekend's FIA GT1 World Championship event at Paul Ricard
He claimed pole position for this afternoon's qualifying race aboard the JR Motorsports Nissan GT-R with a lap of 2m03.419s. That put him less than a tenth of a second ahead of JRM team-mate Michael Krumm.
Westbrook, who shares his Nissan with fellow Briton Peter Dumbreck, said: "That was probably the most stress-free qualifying we've had all year, but I'm a little bit surprised to be on pole. I thought the Aston Martins and the [Selleslagh] Corvette might be quicker."
Tomas Enge was third fastest in the best of the Young Driver AMR Aston Martin DBR9s with a time three tenths behind the second of the Nissans. He just edged out Sumo Power Nissan driver Jamie Campbell-Walter.
The championship leading All-Inkl Lamborghini Murcielago, which is carrying 30kg of success ballast this weekend, failed to make it through Q2 in Marcus Winkelhock's hands. That means time-mate Marc Basseng will line-up 14th for the first of the two one-hour races.
