Sole Aston hits trouble at Spa

The sole Aston Martin in this year's Spa 24 Hours has suffered a setback in its bid to score a GT3 class podium after a long pitstop in the 19th hour

The Barwell Motorsport machine, driven by Eddy Renard, Koen Wauters, Jeffrey van Hooydonck, and Julien Schroyen had been in the fight for second in GT3. It lost around five minutes when Renard had to stop after going off at Les Combes earlier this morning, but the DBRS9 still looked good for a podium.

Later in the morning, however, further damage from the accident was discovered and the car has now fallen to fourth in GT3, eighth laps behind the third placed #161 Prospeed Competition Porsche 911.

Team boss Mark Lemmer said: "We spotted an oil leak - the crash had put a pin hole in the oil cooler.

"We also noticed rear driveshaft wear, so we decided to change that and do a [brake] pad change.

"A podium position has gone, but up until then it was running like clockwork. Fingers crossed we get to the end."

The #121 Ford GT continues to lead the category.
