Dirk Muller replaces Jorg Muller at Marc VDS for Spa 24 Hours

Dirk Muller has replaced fellow BMW factory driver Jorg Muller in the Marc VDS line-up for this weekend's Spa 24 Hours

Dirk Muller will race the Belgian team's third BMW Z4 alongside Andrea Piccini and Jens Klingmann after his namesake was forced by injury to drop out of the line-up for the Blancpain Endurance Series blue-riband event.

Jorg Muller sustained a rib injury driving for the Schubert BMW squd in the ADAC GT Masters event at Spa in May and had to miss the Nurburgring 24 Hours later that month.

He was initially declared fit to race this weekend after taking part in the Marc VDS squad's shakedown last week, but the injury flared up in the days after the test.

Marc VDS team principal Bas Leinders said: "After the test, Jorg said, 'I'm ready', but over the weekend he told us that he didn't feel 100 per cent.

"He said he would be OK despite the pain, but in the end he made the sensible decision and decided not to drive."

BMW, which has also loaned Piccini and Klingmann from its pool of GT drivers, subsequently came up with Dirk Muller as a replacement.

The younger of the two Mullers, who raced one of the GT3-spec Z4s for the Schubert team at the 'Ring this year, briefly tested with Marc VDS at Magny-Cours last year.
