Zytek to test first single-seater
UK competition engine specialist Zytek, whose recently formed chassis division in Banbury holds the design rights to the 2002 Reynard 2KL Formula Nippon single-seater, will be ready to test its first reworked version next month. Project leader Trevor Foster said that the car, fitted with Zytek's 3.5-litre, 600bhp sportscar V8, is an R&D testbed that will showcase the company's potential as a one-stop source for manufacturers planning one-make series, including the FIA F2 class in 2005
Zytek founder Bill Gibson said: "This is a development car to show what we can do, which is to produce the engines, the electronics and now the chassis all under one roof."
Foster added: "It's an R&D project for the engine, but we also wanted our own vehicle to develop some systems, such as a paddle-shift. We've changed the car subtly in a few areas and there are a few other areas we'll be looking at."
Foster predicted that the car would be 6-7sec faster over an average lap than a current Lola-Zytek F3000 car.
