Yoong tops second practice
Former Formula One driver Alex Yoong claimed fastest time of the day in the final minutes of second free practice, ahead of Sunday's eighth round of the A1 Grnad Prix of Nations at Sentul, Indonesia
The Team Malaysia driver ended up nearly three tenths clear of Austrialian Marcus Marshall as the 3.95km Sentul track began to dry after the rain that had affected first practice finally abatted.
Yoong's time of 1:27.557 was nearly a second faster than Ralph Firman's best from the opening session.
"We made a lot of changes to the car after the first session and ended up with a pretty good car," Yoong said. "We have close links with Team Indonesia and share information. Ananda [Mikola, Indonesia's driver] tried a different set up this morning and we went with something similar to that."
Marshall impressed on his first acquaintance with one of the Lola-Zytek A1 GP single-seaters. Brought in to replace Will Davison, the former Champ Car racre sat out the opening session while Christian Jones drove but was still near the top of the timesheets throughout the second one-hour practice period.
Marshall said: "I'm very happy with my performance because I haven't been in a car since October and I am a little bit rusty."
Jos Verstappen, winner last time out in A1 GP at Durban in South Africa, was third fastest with a time four tenths slower than Marshall. The Team Netherlands driver was a further four tenths up on Team France's Nicolas Lapierre.
