Wilson to stay at RuSPORT
RuSPORT will confirm today that Britain's Justin Wilson is to race for a third season with the Colorado-based squad in the Champ Car World Series
Wilson, who was runner-up to Sebastien Bourdais in last year's championship will start testing with the team at Sebring on Tuesday, the opening day of a three day test which is the first for all Champ Car teams with the new Panoz DP01-Cosworth.
New RuSPORT team owner Dan Pettit commented: "We are absolutely delighted to have Justin driving the No. 9 CDW/RuSPORT car for us this year. He is a valuable asset and as a team, we look forward to taking him to the top of the podium.
"Justin is a unifying presence here at RuSPORT and his dedication and work ethic make him a true champion."
The team was also able to confirm CDW, a leading provider of technology solutions for business, government and education, as the principal sponsor for Wilson's car.
The company, who bring several employees and clients to the Champ Car races, had made it clear it was desperate for Wilson to be retained as the Sheffield-born driver is known for his PR skills.
CDW's VP of Marketing, Mark J. Gambill said: ""Justin has shown himself to be a fierce competitor and true gentleman both on and off the track."
Wilson himself, who over the last five months had been linked with both Newman/Haas Racing and Forsythe Championship Racing, 'homes' to fierce rivals Sebastien Bourdais and Paul Tracy respectively, stated: "I'm delighted to continue my relationship with RuSPORT and CDW.
"CDW and their partners are fantastic sponsors and the RuSPORT team is hugely talented. It's been a great combination and we have big ambitions for the future.
"Continuity counts for a lot in motorsport and this extension will allow me to focus 100 percent on getting the most out of the new DP01 and come out fighting for the 2007 championship."
Speculation continues to surround the identity of his team-mate, for RuSPORT may run only one car at Sebring.
Team president Jeremy Dale is known to favour running two experienced drivers to take advantage of the fact that most rival teams are running at least one rookie in 2007.
Names thought to be in the mix are race-winners Oriol Servia and Nelson Philippe, though Andrew Ranger is a possibility. Should the team elect to risk a rookie, Adam Carroll is regarded as a strong candidate, following his test with the team last year.
